Michael J. Corey
With more than 40 years of experience in executive search, Mike Corey is a recruiting industry icon. He specializes in financial services and all lines of insurance, and has recruited over 3,000 executives and consultants worldwide in the private sector, as well as consulting firms, not-for-profit organizations and PE portfolio companies.
Mike is currently a Senior Partner of The Corey Search Group, Inc., an advisory firm dedicated to the financial services industry worldwide. His activities range from executive search, strategic and succession plan consulting to capital raising for new insurance focused ventures. Prior to his role at Corey Search Group he was the Managing Partner for MJC Ventures, Inc. Mike was formerly with Caldwell Partners helping build their US search practice from scratch. He previously held leadership roles at executive search firms Heidrick & Struggles and Highland Partners, Lamalie & Associates and Ward Howell. From 1984 to 1995, Mike was the sole owner, CEO and senior business developer for the Chicago Search Group, which was the largest insurance-focused retained search firm in the country. He was involved in the recruitment of insurance executives in all product lines including employee benefits and technology. His major client for many years was Towers Perrin, where he recruited 400 consultants. He also has been responsible for recruiting many CEO's, CMO's, CFO's, CTO's and "C" suite executives in the life/P&C/health lines of business. Some notable projects include CEO searches for Cigna, M Financial Group, Lincoln National, Fidelity Investments and others as well as Global COO Marsh & McLennan and Vice Chairman of AXA USA. Most recently he has been conducting numerous Board searches for prominent life/health/P&C and PE portfolio companies.
Mike was significantly involved with the Actuarial Foundation as a trustee and a trustee emeritus. He currently serves as a Trustee on the board of the American College. He created and continues to run an event called the Clambake, an annual event for The American College that raises donations for scholarships for Veterans and their spouses at the American College. He also served as a board member of Irish Life Assurance Company. He is a frequent speaker at many insurance industry events.
Patrick M. Corey
Pat is a Senior Partner of The Corey Search Group, Inc., an advisory firm dedicated to the financial services industry worldwide. His expertise ranges from executive search and succession plan consulting to raising capital for new insurance focused ventures.
Pat was formerly a Partner for Odgers Berndtson, Head of the US Insurance Practice, and a member of the Asset Management Practice. With over 28 years of executive search experience, he primarily focuses on senior level management positions in the life, annuity, health and property casualty industries. Previously, Pat was a Senior Client Partner at Korn Ferry in their Insurance Practice and also a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' in their Global Insurance and Financial Services Practice.
Pat has executed numerous top level assignments for domestic and international insurance carriers and brokers. The roles include Presidents and C-suite Executives (Financial, Operations, Technology, Actuarial, Legal, Underwriting, Human Resources and Distribution). He has also recruited Managing Partners for brokers and their subsidiaries. Pat also assists Private Equity Firms in identifying talent for their acquisitions.
Pat received his Bachelors of Science from Northwestern University. He lettered in Golf and sits on the Northwestern Leadership Council.
He currently resides in the Chicago area with his wife and 3 children.
Jeffrey S. Sherman
Jeff has recently joined The Corey Search Group as a Partner and brings over 30 years of experience and leadership from both the client side of top tier insurance/financial services companies as well as from executive search firms. He most recently served as a Senior Human Resources Executive with Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. At Guardian, Jeff led the Compensation, Benefits and Talent Management functions with extensive experience working with the “C” suite executive team and the Board of Directors. He also acted as co-Head of Human Resources for six months, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Guardian, Jeff served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of AXA Asia Pacific Holdings, based in Mebourne, Australia and served as a member of the Executive Committee with Human Resources leadership responsibilities for Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Region, reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer.
Before his three year expatriate assignment in Australia, Jeff served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources for AXA – Equitable in New York, with leadership responsibilities for: HR Consulting, Client Management, Performance Management, Succession Management Leadership Development, Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition and Diversity Programs. Jeff has extensive insurance industry expertise in both the public and private sector, coupled with a deep knowledge of the consumer goods industry having held senior level HR positions with Kraft General Foods and Philip Morris (now Altria). Earlier in his career, Jeff worked as an Executive Search Consultant with Ramsey Beirne Associates, a leading Executive Search firm that specialized in early stage, pre IPO, technology firms, executing searches for “C” Suite level positions.
Jeff has partnered with CEO’s, executive teams, and business heads to achieve and support strategic business objectives in global, mid-size, start-up and entrepreneurial environments and has led hundreds of executive searches in virtually every functional discipline, to recruit world class talent.
Jeff received his Bachelors of Science from Albany University and currently resides in the New York area with his wife and they have three children.
